Previ Culinary: Gluten Free Homestyle Meatballs

Making your own meatballs is incredibly easy, and if you’re gluten free, making them at home means you can control the ingredients. All you need is gluten free oats! Simply throw them in the food processor, and mix as you would regular bread crumbs.

  • 2/3 cup oats, ground
  • ½ onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced (more if you love garlic!)
  • 1 Tbsp. parsley, chopped
  • 1 tsp. dried oregano
  • 1 tsp. dried basil
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 lb. lean ground beef
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • ½ tsp. black pepper

  • 2 – 28 ounce cans crushed tomatoes
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tsp. dried oregano
  • 1 tsp. dried basil

  1. Combine the onion, garlic, parsley, dried oregano, salt, pepper, and basil in a large mixing bowl. Add eggs and whisk to combine.
  2. Add in beef and mix well. Add ground oats, a small amount at a time, only using entire amount if the meatballs need it to hold together.
  3. Form meat into two-inch balls. While you are doing this, heat a skillet over medium high heat.  Add in desired oil.
  4. Once the oil is hot, begin adding the meatballs to the pan.
  5. Sauté the meatballs until they are brown on all sides. Add the sauce, bay leaves, dried basil, and dried oregano. Cover and let simmer until the meatballs are cooked through, 12-15 minutes.
  6. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Serve with desired gluten free pasta or vegetable.
